Plaza Mayor de Lima

The second day of my trip to Lima, Peru found me wandering around the birthplace of Lima.  Once used as a market, bull fighting ring and city gallows it is now a bustling area for local and tourists to enjoy the city center.

Plaza Mayor de Lima

The beginnings of the plaza started in 1523.  Today, it’s a busy park with water fountains and sitting areas.

The plaza is the central point to many important historical and current data destinations like:

  • The Government Palace
  • Case del Oidor
  • Archbishop’s Palace of Lima
  • Catherdal of Lima
  • Headquarters of the Caretas magazine
  • Olaya passage
  • Jiron de la Union
  • Club of the Union
  • Municipal Palace of Lima
  • Park of the flag.

In every direction there is so much history and beautiful Spanish-influenced architecture.  It’s a great place to visit and take in the history and beautiful architecture of Lima, Peru.
